Ways to Network your Business beyond LinkedIn

Most people only think of LinkedIn when it comes to networking their business online, and many businesses completely disregard Facebook and Twitter as networking platforms. Since these two social media sites are the biggest, I’m going to share a few good ways to network with them in mind.

Twitter:

Follow People and Businesses

  • Want to connect with industry leaders? Follow them and see what their interests are from their bio and the content that they tweet. Once you have a good understanding, you can try to engage them with a question, which could ultimately lead to some kind of business relationship.

Say Hello

  • Send a welcome message when you gain new followers. Personalization is a great way to start off on the right foot. This is a perfect way to make a good first impression with a potential client.

“Retweet”

  • If you’re following a fellow small business owner and they’re having a sale of some sort, “retweet” their sale. The majority of the Twitter community will return the favor when you’re having a sale.

Facebook:

Join Groups

  • There are lots of professional groups out there that may be a good spot to network. Make sure when joining these groups that they are professional. Once in a group you can have a conversation with people who share similar interests. It’s a great way to make new friends in your industry and others.

Separate Business from Pleasure

  • Make your personal account private and create another business account. Facebook, after all, is a site for friends, so don’t lose sight of that. Having a private profile allows for goofing around with friends and posting things that might not be considered professional.

Be Selective

  • When creating a separate account for business, take into account who you want to friend. Don’t friend old buddies from high school or college, that’s what a personal account is for. Think business and add those people to your contacts. This way, you can interact with them with a clean and professional profile page.

These are only a few ways that you can network beyond LinkedIn. Do you have any other helpful ways, maybe through YouTube or Myspace? Let me know in the comments! Or tweet us @LogoSnap
