Why You Need an Email List

It’s almost 2013 and everybody is using email to communicate on a daily basis. Regardless of your field of expertise, developing an email list is what’s going to help you reach more potential customers.

Having an email lists helps to increase communication between you and potential clientele.  We’ve all been there, you were at a website or restaurant but forgot about it after you left. I know I’m guilty of doing this, even after an enjoyable experience.

These businesses could have retained me as a customer if they asked for my email address or had a newsletter signup.  Don’t think of email as spam, utilize it as informative communication between you and your customer base.  Don’t neglect your occasional customers, ask for their email address it keep them informed and promote to them for future business.

Here’s an example:  There is a small “mom & pop” burger place by where I went to college.  I was an occasional customer, until one day when I was paying and the cashier asked me to sign up for an email that would send out weekly specials.  I said sure and signed up.  Once I started receiving their weekly emails of delicious specialty burgers, this place instantly became a favorite of mine.

Aside from general communication, emailing is a quick and inexpensive way to notify your clientele of what’s new and exciting in your business.  Keeping clientele (and potential clientele) in the loop of promotions, company news or updates, will definitely help to increase your business.

An example of this situation, after I attended an informative webinar I signed up for their email list. Now I receive notifications for other webinars that I may not have known about otherwise.  With this simple email, they have one more viewer.

Lastly, email lists help you spread the word of what you and your company is doing.  The invention of the forward option helps viewers share your emails.  If you send something worthwhile, chances are subscribers will send it on, increasing your exposure.  This is another great way to gain more subscribers and potential customers.  I, for one, love to share with friends – I’m a big fan of forwarding emails.
